WANT A CLEAN BEDROOM? MAYBE QUIT MAKING YOUR BED – EVERYDAY, ANYWAY
I know, I know – a made bed really looks good and adds a desirable touch of e’clat that you wish to project in your domicile. After all, BEING clean isn’t all you are looking for when you clean your home or – an even better idea – use the services of Accent Maid Service to clean your home. You also want your home to LOOK cared for and clean.
DON’T BE LIKE ACCENT MAID SERVICE
So then why not make the bed, for goodness sake? Of course, unless instructed differently, Accent Maid Service always makes beds when we clean your home. But maybe on those other days, When Accent Maid Service is not there to clean, you can feel okay about leaving beds unmade – at least for part of the day.
Why? Dust mites. I have blogged about them before and I am positive that I will again. The reason is that they are so important in the battle to keep your house clean. You might want to check out some of the earlier blog entries that give more background about the little critters, but perhaps a quick review here would be useful.
THEY’RE EVERYWHERE – EVEN IN OTHERWISE VERY CLEAN HOMES
Dust mites are in all homes. This is not a reflection on your efforts at keeping your home clean. They are just always there – and everywhere. Each of us humans shed enough dead skin each day to feed a million of them – or so I read in WebMD. Also to consider: The American Lung Association tells us that roughly four out of five homes in the United States have detectable levels of dust mite allergen in at least one bed.
What is that allergen? Don’t ask.
Well, okay, I will tell you. It is dust mite feces.
Now, dust mites need a certain level of humidity to survive and thrive. Actually, the higher the better, in their opinion. Your body and breath leave behind moisture in your bed that provides that humidity. By not immediately making your bed, you allow the bedding to lose that moisture to the air. Therefore, not making the bed leads to fewer dust mites which allows for a lower level of their feces and healthier sleeping in an otherwise clean room.
Here is a picture of one of the little rascals:

New to this blog? Find the idea of dust mites and their feces repugnant and therefore are wondering what else you can do, in addition to not making beds? Want to see a way a small child can clean under beds? Check out our earlier blogs. (Just kidding about the small child thing but there is a funny photo.)
In the near future I will share what I have learned about getting them totally – or almost totally - out of your bedding. It is not as easy as you might think. And, if you are new to this site, you will want to go back and check out the earlier blogs about air cleaners.
